MS Michigan Man 64 Podcast

WARRIOR #13 - SWAB - MS WARRIOR

Episode Notes

Welcome to Hail Media I'm Brian Wallace, MS Michigan Man 64, Left Tackle for Michigan Wolverines 1988-1991. This is where a former Wolverine gets real about life after football - battles you don't see coming and training that prepared us to take everything on!

Today I'm talking with the SWAB, an MSer from the UK that was diagnosed with his MS in 2009. Before his diagnosis the SWAB was a heroin addict that thought he had a stroke during an episode. We talk about the mental health part and the fact that he was sexually abused while he was a child and how that affected his mental health.

SWAB explains his path of being diagnosed with PPMS and how it took his ability to walk rapidly and how his mind started to swirl into dark thoughts of suicide.

We also discuss how even after all the battles he endured mentally and physically he still never game up. SAWB also tells me the beautiful story of how he met his wife, Layla, who is also an MS warrior.

Together, SWAB and Layla have created a team and have a beautiful 3 year old son Zane they are bringing up together showing him how to love unconditionally!

FAM is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to mental health and assisting former Michigan team members with life's struggles after football, whether they are mental or physical. Division 1 football at the level we played it is brutal, and not all players come out of it in one piece. Visit www.michiganfootballalumni.org for more info and to make a tax-deductible donation.
