MS Michigan Man 64 Podcast

WARRIOR #1 - MY Story Pt 2

Episode Notes

Welcome to Hail Media I'm Brian Wallace, MS Michigan Man 64, Left Tackle for Michigan Wolverines 1988-1991. This is where a former Wolverine gets real about life after football - battles you don't see coming and training that prepares us to take everything on!

In Part 1, I covered my football journey and 1997 MS diagnosis. Now we're diving into living with Multiple Sclerosis - struggles nobody talks about and mental health battles.

I dealt with drop foot and optic neuritis that messed with my vision. Stress triggered MS episodes. In 2015, I went on disability retirement, which destroyed my mental health. I ignored depression for years - big mistake.

My wife pushed me to get help. I addressed mental health, returned to work, found jobs I loved, but faced employment discrimination when MS vision problems caused mistakes.

Football taught me to take hits and get back up. MS taught me the hardest opponent is inside your body. But you adapt, fight, and find community.

This podcast brings awareness to chronic illness and MS. Shows athletes can face disability and still have purpose. Helps people know they're not alone.

Keep fighting. Go Blue!

FAM is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to mental health and assisting former Michigan team members with life's struggles after football, whether they are mental or physical. Division 1 football at the level we played it is brutal, and not all players come out of it in one piece. Visit www.michiganfootballalumni.org for more info and to make a tax-deductible donation.
