This is where a former Wolverine gets real about life after football - battles you don't see coming and training that prepared me for my toughest opponent. Hail to the Victors. Go Blue!
Before Michigan, I was 1987 Offensive Lineman of the Year DIV II in Ohio and won the 1988 Ohio State Championship for hockey at Padua Franciscan High School in Parma, Ohio. I made my dream come true by earning an athletic scholarship to play for the winningest college football program in HISTORY, the Michigan Wolverines! During my time, we won 4 Big Ten Championships, played 3 Rose Bowls and 1 Gator Bowl. Sophomore year, I fractured vertebrae in my back and missed most of the season. Senior year I made Victor's Club for my performance against Minnesota. I was never a regular starter but learned that hard work and determination will lead you to great opportunities in life as long as you NEVER give up! I became the Wolverine from Ohio who NEVER lost to Ohio my entire college football career! My career ended in 1992, but the discipline, mental toughness, and fight never left.
Five years later in 1997, I got blindsided - Multiple Sclerosis. A disease that attacks your nervous system, mobility, vision. But everything football taught me about pushing through pain, adapting, and never giving up set me up for managing my MS.
This podcast exists because I refuse to let chronic illness win. I'm bringing awareness to MS and disability, showing Wolverines don't quit when the game gets hard. Whether you remember the Maize and Blue or dealing with your own battles, this is our locker room.
